Project IDentity 2011 has come to an end! Our committee would like to thank all the organizations involved, sponsors, volunteers, participants, MINDS MYG projects (Terra Hope and Guilly) and everyone else who has contributed.

We hope to see all of you again in future events organized by RSPID and MINDS, and together, may we continue to create awareness and contribute in our own ways to the intellectually disabled beneficiaries.

"Dear all

I'm Edmund, an ex-RSPID volunteer who led and started Project IDentity around 5 years ago in 2006. From what started from a humble project in 2006, I am delighted to see that Project IDentity has since transformed to be one of the trademarks of RSPID and WSC due to the hard work of my more-than-abled successors. I've been to every other Project ID after the one I initiated, and I am glad that, similar to 5 years ago, the glaring passion and un-dying commitment of the volunteers have remain unchanged. I am also thrilled to witness that even after years have gone by, our beneficiaries' joy for being involved in such an event, remains high. The sparkle in their eyes has always brighten up my day. Here, I take the opportunity to congratulate all the volunteers because you have made, yourself, RSPID, WSC, NTU and even Singapore very proud of our nation's youth. Keep up the good job, and all the best for the event come 16th July 2011!

Bits of facts on RSPID!

History

RSPID is the oldest regular service project in NTU. It was formed in 1985 by Mr Tay Tiong Beng. Over the years, volunteers had been committed to serving this very special group of people, our very own Intellectually Disabled beneficiaries, to be there to help assimilate them into the society.

Aims

• Impart useful social skills and proper ethnics to our Intellectually Disabled beneficiaries to asist their integration into the society.
• To help our beneficiaries gain open employment.
• To create a strong sense of belonging for both our beneficiaries as well as our volunteers.
• To build up strong bond and confidence with the beneficiaries to cultivate a strong sesnse of identity and commitment to the club.

Project IDentity ’10

"Redefine your focus, remove your filters"

Project IDentity ’10 was featured a photography competition with the theme "Resolution". Entries for the competition must be able to demonstrate the participants's resolution in helping the intellectually disabled - removing social stigma, resolving misconceptions and others. Alternatively, it can also show the ID's resolution to live their life to the fullest despite their intellectual disability.

Project IDentity ’09

"A Special Day with the Special Ones"

Project IDentity ’09 featured a 4km walk with the intellectually disabled. A gigantic cube structure was featured to allow participants to write their well wishes. This special day was to enable the participants to know more about the intellectually disabled by going through a walk with them, with posters and booths from MINDS MYG and other projects.

Project IDentity ’08

"Bloom a loving heart”

Project IDentity ’08 featured a large three-dimensional heart, symbolising a garden. The heart was filled with flowers by the public. These flowers were designed and hand-made by our volunteers. The heart represents our society and the flowers represent the IDs. The tagline, “Bloom a loving heart”, reflects the theme and significance of our project.

 

Project IDentity ’07

“‘Leaf’ your love, colour their lives“

Project IDentity ’07 featured a 2.5m artificial tree which was filled with specially made maple leaves. The tree represents our society and the leaves represent the IDs. The public shows their acceptance of the IDs by leaving their well wishes on the maple leaves.

 

Project IDentity ’06

“See not a piece of me but view me as a whole“

Project IDentity ’06 featured a large puzzle measuring 3.5m by 2.5m. This very special puzzle featuring our IDs was pieced together by the public. The public involvement in fixing the puzzle symbolises them helping the IDs integrate into the society.
